The University of Indonesia (UI) and IPB Research Team found a compound that could possibly be a corona antivirus from Indonesian natural ingredients. These compounds include hesperidin, rhamnetin, kaempferol, quercetin and myricetin contained in guava (pink fruit flesh), orange peel, and moringa leaves. FKUI Dean Ari Fahrial Syam explained the research was based on screening results of hundreds of proteins and thousands of herbal compounds related to the mechanism of action of the virus. It turned out to be obtained by several classes of compounds that have the potential to inhibit and prevent the SARS-CoV-2 virus (corona virus).

"A combination of multidisciplinary researchers conducted a big data analysis and machine learning from the HerbalDB database developed by the Biomedical Computing Laboratory and Drug Design of the Faculty of Pharmacy UI totaling 1,377 herbal compounds," Ari said in a press release on Friday (3/13).
Ari explained that pharmacophore mapping was carried out using the structure and ligand method. Then the results were confirmed using molecular modeling methods to evaluate their antiviral activity. "The results of this discovery are expected to be beneficial for the community to prevent and increase endurance from the corona virus attack," Ari said. 165 milligrams (mg) of vitamin C. Meanwhile, one orange contains only 69 mg, the content of vitamin C in guava is effective in treating male infertility.
